How Conversion works with Airtable
Conversion connects to Airtable so a Conversion agent, an AI teammate with its own instructions and permissions, can start work when a record changes. A trigger fires when a record in the table you choose is created or updated and matches your field conditions, and the agent then reads the record and its comments, updates its fields, and works with its attachments. Its Airtable tools only act on the record that started the session, and later changes or comments on that record continue the same conversation.
What you can do
Conditions you control
Match text, number, checkbox, and select fields, such as Status is Ready and Type is Email or Newsletter. Conditions are saved by field ID, so renaming a field keeps them working.
The record is the conversation
Later edits and new comments on a record return to its session, so reviewers can ask for changes right where the request lives.
Files in, files out
The agent downloads attachments into its sandbox, processes them, and uploads results to an attachment field or shares a download link for larger files.
One record, by design
Record tools always act on the record linked to the session, and each can be set to Automatic, Requires approval, or Disabled on the agent's Tools tab.
What syncs
| Data | Direction | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Record events | Into Conversion | Created and updated records that match your conditions, plus deletions, delivered through Airtable webhooks. The agent can't fetch or write a deleted record. |
| Comments | Two-way | New comments on a linked record are checked periodically and continue its session. The agent replies with comments prefixed with its name. |
| Fields | Out of Conversion | The agent updates editable fields on the record that started the session, and no other record. |
| Attachments | Two-way | Files up to 25 MB download into the agent's sandbox, and results upload back up to Airtable's 5 MB direct-upload limit. |
How to connect Airtable
- 1 Connect Airtable in Workspace settings > AI > Connections with a dedicated Airtable account that has Creator access to the bases you select.
- 2 On a custom agent's Configuration tab, add an Airtable trigger and choose the base, table, and event.
- 3 Add field conditions, such as Status is Ready, so the agent only picks up records that are ready for it.
- 4 Set the agent's record and file tools to Automatic, Requires approval, or Disabled, then test on a single record.
